E. Coli

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vpTvVbNsJs

E. Coli (escherichia coli) is a bacteria that can be found in our environment, our food, and our stomachs.  Some of the E. Coli bacteria are not harmful, but some can be dangerous to where a person can be killed.  This bacterium develops when food products are put into unsanitary environments.  For example, some cows are raised in tight spaces where they might stand in and eat their own manure, which can cause bacteria in their system to grow.  It is said that E. Coli grows more in a cow when they are forced to eat corn and grain.  Instead of giving cows what they normally eat, which is grass, they feed them corn because it causes them to grow bigger and faster.  What many farmers do not realize is that corn harms both the cow and the human population.

In 2015, the franchise called Chiptole had to shut down many restaurants due to E. Coli poisoning.  In this news video, it was said that the company did not know what caused the outbreak of this bacterium.  After many were hospitalized, they launched investigations in their distribution centers and many different environmental tests so they can narrow down the problem.  Chipotle had a reputation to withhold so they continued to search for a clear ending to this bacterium.  A lot of people stopped going to Chipotle after this controversy but I still know many people that go eat there whenever they feel like it, even after hearing about the outbreak.  Would you go to Chiptole after hearing they had an E. Coli in their food?

  1. I honestly did not know much about E. Coli until I read this. The fact that food in the market is not analyzed by the many food industries suggests negligence for consumer health and disregard of the importance of having quality in food. Most of us may have pleasure while eating food today but how much more pleasure and fulfillment would food give us if it was in good quality? The thought of eating meat from animals who may have ingested their own manure is making me more concerned with our current food system

  3. I've heard so many bad things about Chipotle for a while that it made me stop going to eat there. I heard about the E. Coli outbreak and I also heard rumors that they were also using meat from cats and dogs. Not sure if its true but I heard that that's also one of the reasons why they're losing so many customers. I wonder how much longer will they last before they completely go out of business..
